The 5 Habits of Highly Successful Homeschoolers
Oliver DeMille (60 minutes) + Rachel DeMille (60 minutes) – 2 hr total run time.
There are many types of homeschooling, and each family ideally individualizes what is needed for each child. But there are 5 Habits that are simply essential if you want your kids to get a truly excellent education. These habits are used by people in many different styles of homeschooling, and they facilitate greater family unity, reduced stress, increased learning and higher levels of achievement. Learn what they are and how to apply them in this exciting mini-seminar! These 5 Habits will revolutionize the quality of your homeschool, making it both easier and much more effective.

Rachel DeMille is living joyfully in a world that makes only as much sense as it absolutely has to. Striving to develop and share her gifts with those they were intended for, and constantly humbled and amazed at the goodness of those who share in return. Wife to Oliver, mother of 8 and counting, co-creator of TJEd, and on a mission to heal families, inspire others to detect, refine and unleash their genius and anxiously awaiting more grandbabies. Currently building a mini-farm, wondering if it's going to push her over the edge.
Rachel is the creator and editor of Homeschool.com's 2013 & 2014 Best Curriculum award-winning This Week in History.

Oliver DeMille is the founder of the highly acclaimed Thomas Jefferson Education ("TJEd") model of learning and the presenter of the online educational series, the Homeschool.com 2014 Best Curriculum award winning Mentoring in the Classics. He and his wife Rachel are the parents of five daughters and three sons. The DeMilles’ insights are informed not only by dealing with the unique needs, learning styles and gifts in their own home, but through their experience in mentoring and consulting with schools and families on virtually every level, and around the world.
Oliver is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author and a popular keynote speaker at corporate and educational events.

Organized Sessions

What is Unschooling Anyway?
Session Leader: Michelle Kennedy Hogan
Session Description: A lecture/q&a session about unschooling. What is unschooling? Does it really mean no education? Of course not. Trying to live a life where the idea of school does not really exist is not as difficult as it sounds. Without school, children are able to explore their own interests and the interests of others. Taking classes, doing experiments, traveling, writing, learning and more can all be done outside of the context of school -- but sometimes having the confidence to do it takes a little planning and some undoing of previous held theories about just what constitutes education.

The Lost Tools of Learning
Session Leader: Barbara Franke and Laura Pulluaim
Session Description: To be effective teachers we must understand how students learn and then teach them according to how their learning develops. This session will give an overview of the classical model which focuses on teaching students how to learn. It will also introduce you to Classical Conversations which exists to assist parents in educating their children through high school. Classical Conversations believes there are three keys to a great education: the classical model, taught within the framework of a Christ-centered worldview, in a supportive community.

Options for Homeschoolers: Harmony Educational Services
Session Leader: Jon Funes
Session Description: Hawaii students who want to receive Harmony curriculum for free do so by enrolling in one of the public schools that Harmony partners with. Upon enrollment with Harmony, and the public school, students receive: Free Curriculum, Educational Reimbursement and Mentor Support

College for Homeschoolers

Blended Learning at HTA
Session Leader: Jennifer Gillette
Session Description: What is blended learning? Come to this session to learn about what blended learning is all about. There are many different blended learning programs in Hawaii and this session will just focus on what blended learning is at Hawaii Technology Academy PCS (HTA). You will learn of this new schooling option for students that empowers them to succeed through our blended learning experience-- face-to-face, virtual, and independent. At this session, you will also be able find out if HTA is the right fit for your child.

Vision Tracking
Session Leader: Mary Mihalka
Session Description: "Vision is the brain's way of touching the world"... When eyes track together, reading is enjoyable and comprehension is enhanced.
This session will introduce the concept of VISION TRACKING and it's importance in reading. Attendees will learn about how vision tracking can affect learning, classroom behavior and coordination in sports.
